Why did Dorothy end up in the land of Oz? Whose fault was it?
Was it Mrs. Gulch’s for making a fuss about Toto? Was it Toto’s for being a mischievous dog? Was it Dorothy’s for running away? Was it the uncle and aunt’s for not being understanding? Was it God’s for sending a twister?
Life is a complex weave of overlaying events. Does one string stand out in the pattern? Does it matter? What would happen were it pulled out?
The Why’s and What-if’s of life are often left unanswered. Still the advice given to Dorothy is good advice: “Follow the yellow-brick road.”
We might not understand how or why we got here, but the way forward is plain: Take the next step of faith; follow the path God calls you to. Do the next right thing.
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”
Hebrews 11:8-10 NKJV
Today I’ll be working with a fellow doing a landscaping job.
For the rest of the last quarter of the school year I’ll only be working at school for about half a day a week. Class sizes have shrunk since the year started, so I only have a few principal duties left.
Now to find other work to keep me occupied and to win some bread.
I think I know how Dorothy felt.
