Toward the end of the week of revival meetings, we enjoyed hosting two couples from Massachusetts. Rondell and Jacinda Stauffer had been here the previous December, but Shawn and KayLynn Reinford were here for the first time. It was odd to have another Shawn around, but everyone here calls me David, so I wasn’t too confused.
Jacinda and Shawn and Kaylynn could all speak Spanish enough to converse, and Kaylynn is fluent. I always enjoy having others around who can help with conversation. I think that’s one of the things Esmeralda and Alicia most need is open, regular conversation with other sisters. I’ve recently been thinking about the necessity and efficacy of face-to-face conversation in building relationships and leading others to the Lord. It brought me joy to see how Esmeralda just glowed talking to KayLynn.
The church in Massachusetts has the work of an outreach church on their hearts, so the couples were coming with eyes open to the possibility of a future here. As such, we men spent some time roaming about the countryside, looking at land and asking about availabilty and pricing. We enjoyed a hike up one of the lower mountains around here that allowed us to survey the whole valley.
Having the couples here was both good and hard. We so enjoyed the fellowship that it made it hard to say goodbye. I especially found it easy to connect with Rondell; he and I talked quite a lot, and we’ve had the pleasure of talking since. I was quite spoiled that week with five brothers in church on Sunday morningβa real treat.
As you will recall, our family is planning to move from here in July 2026, with the Lord’s blessing. We still have no one to take on the work. We had high hopes that Massachusetts might be able to fill that need, but the timing is not right for them. I still pray God will lead them here to help in another year or two. The GCM board has asked another church to consider taking on the work; more on that in the future, I hope.
Please keep praying for the church here. Our sisters need a brotherhood to support them and continue building the church. May the Lord reveal His plan to us!
