The formal school year, which lasted more or less a full year with some breaks, finisehd up the end of April. Gabriela organized a lovely year-end program. Each student wrote a report about a particular subject and shared it. They also sang some songs, recited poetry and Bible memory, and did a few interactive examples of their work. Besides the church, Percy’s and Rafael’s were also in attendance as well as a handful of folks via a live video link.

Gabriela and Alicia flew to Lima together because the minister ordination there was scheduled, and they wanted to be there for it. Esmeralda flew around the same time but took some time to visit her father and siblings in Lima. They were all able to be there for the ordination, which Alicia described as one of the most beautiful experiences of her life. Alicia and Esmeralda each flew back separately later.
The same day we dropped off Gabriela and Alicia at the airport, we collected Zemmi Beachy. She is from Belize and is planning to be my wife’s handmaiden until we move in July. We didn’t know her, but I had worked with her father several years ago. They reached out to us with the offer of help, and we were glad to accept!

Zemmi got here just in time, as we all fell ill with a bad flu of some sort. There was a strain of Covid going around, and we suspect that’s what we had. All of us were quite sick except for Zemmi. It was providential that she was here to help. Our sickness(es) lasted just over a month. We thought we’d never get better, but we finally are, praise the Lord. Kenton says he’s never been so sick and fatigued before. Somewhere along the way, Zemmi got sick for a few days in solidarity with the rest of us, but she seemed to tire of it quickly and was soon back to helping in her quiet, steady way.
