Report from August, 2025 (43 of 100)

Some time ago, I decided I was going to at least do 100 more posts on the blog before deciding if it should be permanently retired or not. I forced myself to put the number of posts in the title of each blog so that I would have accountability. Has it worked? Well, it has dragged me back here today, I guess. πŸ˜…

I have several posts planned with notes already written out to get you caught up on the main events of the past months. This post is from August, 2025, and if all goes to plan, the next post will be for September and so on and so forth, ad nauseumβ€”or something. It would be nice to get you up-to-date because I have recently been wishing to share on the blog more of what’s going on around here, but I just couldn’t bring myself to write about today without closing the breach. These posts may be a little light on words and heavy on photos.

Therefore… last August, we enjoyed a short visit from Tanner. We always love having him around and miss him muchly when he goes.

Plenty of mechanic projects when Primo is around

We were blessed that Brent and Ruth Slabaugh from the church in Huaral, Peru, agreed to be houseparents for us. Steph and I took a trip to the States both to attend a PCBE business meeting (I do some editing work for PCBE) and to meet with the ministry at our home church in Virginia. (Can we still call it our home church after seven years?)

Both meetings went well. The talk with the ministry in Virginia was to get advice about the next step. Steph and I were both encouraged from that meeting and felt clear direction to begin looking for another church somewhere in Latin America. Over time, we landed on a church in Guatemala. More on that in future posts.

We visited so many people on our trip! Sorry I can’t name them all or past photos. (Some have threatened me with bodily harm if they show up on the blog…) But we thoroughly enjoyed our time with friends and family.

We had a bit of a surprise twist to our trip in that we ended up coming back with an extra person! Steph’s youngest sister, Liz, came back with us. She was looking for a time of discipleship and asked if Steph and I would be willing to be mentors for her. We agreed and brought her back with us, and I immediately began working on a discipleship program for her. That was challenging for me, but I really enjoyed it. The children loved getting to know their aunt after having been apart for most of six years.
