Report from October, 2025 (45 of 100)

In October, our family took a trip to Urubamba. We left Aunt Liz with Miss Gabriela, and we abandoned Kenton completely. It was a relaxing time of fun and connection for our family. We were grateful to have had the opportunity.

The highlight was a heated pool.
While we were there, it stormed and flooded the upper rooms. We worked at cleaning up the water before breakfast.

Toward the middle of the month, Steph and Liz needed to travel to Bolivia to renew Liz’s visa. They decided to make a sister trip of it and mangaged to get some touristing in while there.

On the way home, they went through Puno and visited the church there.

While they were away, I got the grand idea to do an overhaul of Steph’s and my room. My poor children put in long hours helping get everything patched and sanded and painted. Steph messaged me on the day they were to arrive home with the “bad news” that their ticket was wrong, and they would need to wait for the next day’s bus. We at home were delighted! It gave us one more day to put the finishing touches on the room.

Kenton helped too.

We had fun helping Gabriela’s family surprise her for her birthday. She was shocked. There were tears. It was perfect.

Toward the end of the month, we had the pleasure of a visit from Kevin and Rachel Sommers. Kevin has served as the chairman for GCM, the mission we are serving under here. Their visit was special, but what was most special was seeing how my wife and Rachel got along. I loved catching them chatting away. Those of you who know Steph well know it takes a special person to get her to talk. 😊

While Kevin’s were here, a couple young men who had been visiting Huaral came over to the Cusco area and visited us as well. It was enjoyable getting to know them.

Kevin and Rachel moved my tea out of the garden and into tires.

It worked out that Liz would return with Kevin and Rachel, so we said a rather sad farewell to her. Her time of discipleship here was a huge stretch for Steph and me. We hope she learned as much as we did! We pray that the times of prayer and study we shared will be a blessing to her, and we hope she looks back on Peru with fondness.
