We were all happy that Gabriela could come from Huaral to visit for a week. We enjoyed several Venezuelan dishes that she made while here.

Alicia’s corn was ready to harvest, so Kenton, Zemmi, Gabriela, Anne, Abbey, Dane, and Shawn all went early one morning to husk the dried corn in the field. Alicia had told them there wasn’t very much to do, just a few hours’ worth, but they worked from just after breakfast until around 5:00 that evening.
The process is to take a sharp object, like a large nail, and cut open the dried husk, then rip off the husk and keep the dried corn. It’s easy to end up with quite a few cuts and knicks from the abrasive corn husks. Dane and Shawn were trying to count and see who had the most battle wounds between them.
Kenton figured they got over a ton of corn, which will be a nice amount of income for Alicia if she sells the corn. She may keep a lot of it for feeding her animals through the dry season.
